- EVI: Multilingual Spoken Dialogue Tasks and Dataset for Knowledge-Based Enrolment, Verification, and Identification Knowledge-based authentication is crucial for task-oriented spoken dialogue systems that offer personalised and privacy-focused services. Such systems should be able to enrol (E), verify (V), and identify (I) new and recurring users based on their personal information, e.g. postcode, name, and date of birth. In this work, we formalise the three authentication tasks and their evaluation protocols, and we present EVI, a challenging spoken multilingual dataset with 5,506 dialogues in English, Polish, and French. - Post-Training Embedding Alignment for Decoupling Enrollment and Runtime Speaker Recognition Models Automated speaker identification (SID) is a crucial step for the personalization of a wide range of speech-enabled services. Typical SID systems use a symmetric enrollment-verification framework with a single model to derive embeddings both offline for voice profiles extracted from enrollment utterances, and online from runtime utterances. Due to the distinct circumstances of enrollment and runtime, such as different computation and latency constraints, several applications would benefit from an asymmetric enrollment-verification framework that uses different models for enrollment and runtime embedding generation. To support this asymmetric SID where each of the two models can be updated independently, we propose using a lightweight neural network to map the embeddings from the two independent models to a shared speaker embedding space. Our results show that this approach significantly outperforms cosine scoring in a shared speaker logit space for models that were trained with a contrastive loss on large datasets with many speaker identities. This proposed Neural Embedding Speaker Space Alignment (NESSA) combined with an asymmetric update of only one of the models delivers at least 60% of the performance gain achieved by updating both models in the standard symmetric SID approach. 5 authors · Jan 22, 2024
26 EuroLLM: Multilingual Language Models for Europe The quality of open-weight LLMs has seen significant improvement, yet they remain predominantly focused on English. In this paper, we introduce the EuroLLM project, aimed at developing a suite of open-weight multilingual LLMs capable of understanding and generating text in all official European Union languages, as well as several additional relevant languages. We outline the progress made to date, detailing our data collection and filtering process, the development of scaling laws, the creation of our multilingual tokenizer, and the data mix and modeling configurations. 21 Audio Mamba: Bidirectional State Space Model for Audio Representation Learning Transformers have rapidly become the preferred choice for audio classification, surpassing methods based on CNNs. However, Audio Spectrogram Transformers (ASTs) exhibit quadratic scaling due to self-attention. The removal of this quadratic self-attention cost presents an appealing direction. Recently, state space models (SSMs), such as Mamba, have demonstrated potential in language and vision tasks in this regard. In this study, we explore whether reliance on self-attention is necessary for audio classification tasks. By introducing Audio Mamba (AuM), the first self-attention-free, purely SSM-based model for audio classification, we aim to address this question. - Metarobotics for Industry and Society: Vision, Technologies, and Opportunities Metarobotics aims to combine next generation wireless communication, multi-sense immersion, and collective intelligence to provide a pervasive, itinerant, and non-invasive access and interaction with distant robotized applications. Industry and society are expected to benefit from these functionalities. For instance, robot programmers will no longer travel worldwide to plan and test robot motions, even collaboratively. Instead, they will have a personalized access to robots and their environments from anywhere, thus spending more time with family and friends. Students enrolled in robotics courses will be taught under authentic industrial conditions in real-time. This paper describes objectives of Metarobotics in society, industry, and in-between. It identifies and surveys technologies likely to enable their completion and provides an architecture to put forward the interplay of key components of Metarobotics. Potentials for self-determination, self-efficacy, and work-life-flexibility in robotics-related applications in Society 5.0, Industry 4.0, and Industry 5.0 are outlined. 1 authors · Mar 31, 2024
