I tired IQ4_XS and it was doing pretty well on my test cards. It is intelligent, writes just the right amount (not too concise neither too verbose), does not get stuck in place but also does not rush (so pace of plot advancement was pretty good, which most models struggle with). It followed instructions very well. It can do evil / play antagonist. I did not try ERP.
I definitely recommend people to try this for RP. I tested with basic sampler (MinP 0.02 + DRY) and simple "Actor" system prompt from SillyTavern (with Llama 3 instruct template).
Can't compare with previous versions (I did not try those).
